The holidays are in full swing and Christmas is only a few days away! One question that I keep getting from people is, “What are you doing for Christmas?” It’s so interesting that we always feel like we have to “do” something spectacular to celebrate the holidays. From shopping to food and travel, the holidays are just so much. This year, I’m staying home for the holidays, and I’m giving myself time to relax, reflect, and prepare for the new year.
I don’t like to fly in December anyway because the winter holidays are the busiest times for travel. That means longer lines at the airport, more time on the roads, and lots of frustrated adults and kids. The weather is also terrible! Right now, there are snow storms and rain storms all over the U.S., making travel conditions even more miserable than usual. It’s cold and rainy outside, but I’m enjoying staying in my warm and cozy home, typing away on my computer.
With the hustle and bustle of commuting daily and taking care of all of my daily tasks as a mother, daughter, and friend, I don’t take nearly enough time for myself. I’ve been working on the physical side of this equation – working out, taking care of my hair, nails and skin, and all of that stuff. But, this holiday season, I’m taking the time to work on the inside. It’s been a very long time since I sat down and spent some time journaling and planning out my goals.
I’m off of work for two weeks, and my major focus is getting ready for my next phase in life. I want to grow my brand, create quality content, and create a full time income from my creative skills. I’ve been taking a lot of steps in the right direction. I purchased a new camera and some gear (more on that in an upcoming post), and I have an idea about the creative direction I want to use for my videos moving forward.
When you’re working all day long, then coming home exhausted to face home and family responsibilities, it can be really difficult to create. But, this time off will hopefully help me catch up on some things and get a jump-start on others. There is no way that I could do that if I was handing out in crowded airports with other frustrated people.
I may take a quick trip sometime soon, but right now I’m happy at home with my computer, my camera, and my tripod.
