It’s a new year, and like most new years, it marks a time for growth and change. I’ve been spending my vacation time creating content, re-learning how to edit videos, and building my relationship with my readers and YouTube followers. Besides posting content online, I’ve also been working behind the scenes to try to define the direction of my blog and my brand for 2018. I’ve literally been working step-by-step planning out my blog, categories, topics, and photos.
I shared a video on my YouTube channel about about my big goals for 2018, centered around 5 goals that I want to work to achieve in the new year.
1. Grow My YouTube Channel
2. Write & Sell Books
3. Improve My Fitness
4. Create extra income streams!
5. Continue traveling and learning languages

As part of my goal-setting process, I’ve also been slowly, but surely updating my branding and realigning the content on my blog. When I started my very first blog back in 2008, I focused on book reviews and writing tips. I really enjoyed that content, and I eventually started another blog that was focused on beauty.
I’ve migrated back to my first love, writing, and I’ve decided to shift the focus of my blog to sharing writing tips and my journey as a writer, along with some behind-the-scenes looks at the technology and tools I use to power my blog and create my content on YouTube, and the occasional vlog-style video.
Over these last few weeks, I’ve learned some really interesting lessons about sharing content online, on both my personal platform and when sharing my thoughts on other people’s pages. I’ve been reminded that not everyone takes it well when you disagree with them, and some people can even be retaliatory and vindictive.
We see this play out every day when celebrities are scrutinized, often unfairly criticized, and even sometimes stalked in person and online. We see this when young students are bullied. We see it when people are harassed in the workplace, and we most certainly see this play out on social media.
It’s a sad and scary reminder that even though social media can be a powerful tool for sharing information, it’s also important to protect yourself online while still speaking your truth and sharing your content.
I’m more determined that never to be a positive influential voice in the online community and on social media. As such, I’ll be narrowing the focus on the content that I share to focus on helping other creators and sharing my own writing through books and blog posts.
I’m really excited about this more focused direction, and I really think it will help me connect with and serve many more writers in the new year! What are some of your BIG GOALS or 2018? Be sure to leave a comment here, or connect withe me on social media. I look forward to hearing from you.
