The internet has created an amazing opportunity for everyday working women just like you to start your own business and blog and start earning an extra income online while working full time.
I’ve been able to earn thousands of dollars in income online outside of my full time job. That extra income has helped me tremendously over the years, and I’m going to share what I’ve learned to help you, too.
Why You Should Start An Online Business
I stumbled upon online business many years ago when I was working as a teacher. I needed a creative outlet, so I started searching for ways to publish my writing. That’s when I discovered blogging and online business. I started freelancing and I’ve been making money online ever since.
If you have something of value that you want to share with the world, then an online business is the perfect avenue for you. Online businesses have a very low overhead to start and virtual products and services are in high demand.
Just about everyone has a skill, message, or talent that can be packaged and sold online as a virtual service or a digital product. Plus, an online business is the perfect business to start while you still have a full time job.
That’s because you can work online whenever you have time before or after work, or on the weekends. Plus, the internet can work for you. When you sell products and services online, they can sell themselves while you are working once you set up the correct systems.
For example, on a website like mine, you can read about the information I have to share, and any products or services I have available. Then, you can click to buy at any time of day or night.
A traditional business requires a lot of overhead for a physical office space, product inventory, and possibly employees and other expenses. You will also need to be available during regular hours to serve clients and customers at a traditional business.
During my entrepreneurial journey, I made the mistake of getting an office space in hopes of starting a traditional service-based business. I burned through cash in that business and I eventually closed shop. But, I learned a valuable lesson.
I learned that an online business is the best business to start while working full time because it has a low overhead, a limitless pool of clients and customers to serve, and you can easily pivot and change courses as needed to offer different products and services in order to make a profit.
How a Blog Can Help You Make Money Online
There are many different ways to make money online with or without a website, but in the longterm a website can really help you make money passively. Your website and blog can work for you while you are working at your full time job.
I use the term blog to refer to your website and blog, but there is a difference. Your website refers to the static pages of your website that don’t often change. A blog is the portion of your website where you add articles (blog posts) regularly. The two terms are often used interchangeably, as a blog is part of your website, or it can be considered a website in itself.
I encourage you to have a blog, or have a blog as part of your website because it is a way to share information with your audience, and it is a way for Google to find your website and recommend it to people who are searching for content.
Once people find your blog, and receive value from the posts you share, you can then ask them to join your email list or directly pitch products and services on your site. It is harder for people to find you when you simply have a static website.
You also shouldn’t depend solely on social media to market your online business. Social media is not reliable, and algorithms control who sees your content. Social media sites also censor content and deplatform people who they believe have violated their terms of service.
On your website, visitors can click around and interact with your content and read all about your offerings. They will always have a place online where they can find you, read more about your business, and find links to follow you on social media as well.
Best of all, when you are working your full time job, people can continue to visit your website and blog.
Tips for Launching an Online Business and Blog
The first step in launching your online business is to brainstorm! Think about what virtual services or digital products you can create and sell online. Consider the special knowledge and skills that you have or anything that you have been paid for in the past.
Once you have identified your offerings, plan them out. Then, plan your budget. Consider the cost of launching a new website, any business license you may need to perform professional services, and the cost of the tools you will need to deliver services online.
If you don’t have much money to invest, you can start freelancing online on a site like Upwork with little to no initial investment, and you can sell digital products on a site like Payhip with no upfront costs.
After you get into the flow of your selling products and services online, you can launch your website and set up systems to earn passive income.
If you have no idea how to get started, don’t worry! You don’t have to do it alone. I’ve been creating content and earning an income online for years and my goal is to help you start making money online even if you are still working full time.
